Between the drama and action, AMC doesn’t forget to spotlight the Season 3 wardrobe behind the martial arts/fantasy drama, Into The Badlands, starring Daniel Wu and Emily Beecham. Check out how these visually striking costumes are made for the fantastical action-driven show!

As we previously mentioned, Into the Badlands is a genre-blending story of survival and dominance set in a future feudal society. Within the territory known as the Badlands, a variety of clans struggle for supremacy over one another. These clans have been formed by the destruction of familial bonds and skirmishes over power.

[Spoilers: Makes sure you check out recent recaps] Here are 5 reasons we love the Season 3 wardrobe of Into the Badlands:

5) Giovanni Lipari!

As we previously mentioned, Costume Designer Giovanni Lipari joined the AMC drama during the second season. The stunning costumes have to define the various clans at war within this post-apocalyptic universe. The iconic looks of the AMC drama always start with an original sketch

4) Expect The Unexpected!

In interview with That Moment In, Lipari reveals even though multiple outfits are made, rips and tears often do happen. The designer says, “I remember we did have one incident with one of Moon’s blue regent coats when it got badly destroyed during a fight scene. While it wasn’t expected to happen, it was not a disaster for us as we had made so many multiples and could replace it on the spot. I guess this is where good planning and preparation comes in. For the amount of fighting on the show, you absolutely have to plan ahead for the unexpected.”

3) The Widow!

Lipari also talks about the costume for my favorite character on the show, “Her look so far has always been inspired by the Victorian era but I would like to move her style towards more of a 1940’s silhouette, mixing some Badlands style of course. I think this would work perfectly with her body shape and if done right, would still exude her power and control.”

2) There’s A Recipe!

The costume designer mentions his collaboration with his showrunner,  “I went through many conversations with our Showrunner Miles Millar and over time we got on the same page about what the inspiration and look for all the characters would be. I think this filtering and decisive process helped develop the recipe for the Badlands look.”

1) The Next Half!

Lipari dishes on the second half of the third season, “While the second part airs later than the first, the entire season was prepared for and shot in advance of this, so all the designing has already happened.”

Currently on break, Season 3 of Into the Badlands will continue on AMC.
