A  spellbinding blend of rural mystery and urban horror, Gideon Falls #2 (Image Comics) delivers the thrills and suspense at a gripping pace. The creative team behind Old Man Logan and Green Arrow dive into the themes of mental illness and faith.

The mysteries of the “Black Barn” heighten as the reclusive Norton begins to unravel new clues just as a murder spree breaks out in the town of Gideon Falls. But how is it all connected?! The puzzle pieces begin to fall.

Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Gideon Falls #2:

5) What Happened Before…

In the first issue, Father Wilfred arrives in a small town, drawn to a heinous murder. Norton appears to have lost his own mind. They both find themselves connect to the mysterious legend of The Black Barn.

4) The Writing!

Writer Jeff Lemire continues to buildup the mystery with a new character, Norton’s therapist, Angie. At the center of the narrative, Angie wants to help her patient but she might have cross a line in order to save him. Father Wilfred’s life is spiraling out of control after finding a dead body.

3) The Artwork!

With such heavy inks, artist Andrea Sorrentino captures Norton’s paranoia. Notice how Noton’s facial expression are always wide-eyed, as if he’s suspicious of everyone. I really liked how Sorrentino transitioned from one scene to another through Norton and Wilfred’s physical poses.

2) The Colors!

Colorist Dave Stewart depicts Norton’s paranoia in one frightening panel. Notice how the panel is split repeatedly three times, resembling burnt film. The entire panel is drenched in red tones.

1) A Spellbinding Mystery!

Gideon Falls #2 builds its mystery with a cast of compelling characters. I’m looking forward to what happens next in Gideon Falls!
