TNT continues Season 3 of their compelling crime drama, Animal Kingdom, starring Shawn Hatosy and Ellen Barkin, with Episode 5 Prey. With Smurf (Barkin) behind bars, can her boys continue their living through armed robberies without her?
After having hot sex with his new lover, Deran (Jake Weary) gets some weird fatherly advice from Billy (Denis Leary). After their heart-to-heart-talk, Billy asks Deran how come he’s not in charge. Is Deran’s father trying to divide the family against J?
Craig (Ben Robson) discovers Smurf had been sponsoring a siblings’ charity surf tournament with a $5k donation. He gets a lecture from Billy about not visiting his mother in jail. When Billy isn’t looking, Criag is being seduced by a naked Frankie (Dichen Lachman) at the pool.
At the prison, Craig reveals Smurf that he’s the reason why Carter’s brother is paralyzed. Craig was so high and was driving. He didn’t know Smurf was paying th bills that followed. Smurf then mentions to Craig that J is not the one in charge.

Episode 305- “Prey”
Meanwhile, Nicky (Molly Gordon) thinks she’s through with J after cheating on him. Unfortunately, just as she is packing up, Nicky gets a call from her father. Not even her father wants her home; she has no place else to go.
Pope (Hatosy) visits Tina Trujillo in prison and asks about Mia. Tina reveals she is getting paid but she didn’t plant Mia. She leans closer and warns Pope that she is dangerous.
At her new school, Lena (Aamya Deva Keroles) ends up chopping off a classmate’s ponytail. Called into the principal’s office, Pope has a hard time admitting that Lena needs grief counseling. Freaking out, Pope cries out to Lena, “I don’t know what I’m doing wrong! I can’t do this by myself!”
With a snitch in their hands, Deran and J have no choice but to abandon Mrs. F and her cat. Driving her far from home, the duo leave Mrs. F and there cat in the middle of nowhere, without any cash and no ID. Ignoring Smurf’s call, J ignores the guilt and tells himself that he was doing an errand.
After shooting up with Billy, Nicky falls into the bed. J doesn’t say a word as he lies next to Nicky in bed. Before closing his eyes, He reminds himself what Pope said, “I don’t want Smurf to die in jail. She’s family. If I want her dead, I’ll do it myself.”

After arriving at the house in the middle of the night, Mia (Sohvi Rodriguez) and Billy exchange looks like they know each other.
