Visually captivating from the start, God Complex #1 (Top Cow) builds a spell-binding mystery within its glossy neon vision. God Complex wonderfully balances sci-fi and noir, while exposing its mediative finger at the mythology of all-powerful gods.

In the futuristic city of Delphi, a young digital-forensics investigator finds himself embroiled in the bizarre murders of three church acolytes. Seneca is guided by his cryptic mentor, the ruler known as Hermes. Together they will uncover a shocking conspiracy that will turn his entire world upside down.

Here are 5 reasons why you should get God Complex #1:

5) The World Building!

Part of the narrative focuses on exploring its a digital future powered by mythological gods. Readers will dive deep into the re-imagining of the gods from various beliefs, which includes Greek, Egypt, China, and Japan. It’s interesting how a science and technology-based future adheres to humanity’s basic need to answer questions about religion and faith.

4) Sci-Fi Noir!

Created by GLITCH founder Bryan Lie, writer Paul Jenkins jumps right into the action and introduces readers quickly to the murders. The plot revolves around the three deaths in the opening pages. Jenkins captures the noir setting and keeps the pages soaked in never-ending end.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Hendry Prasetya has a glossy style that is quite appealing to the eyes. In the opening pages, notice how your eyes follow the direction the panels, explaining how the deaths occurred. You’re seeing the subtle clues through the perspective of Seneca.

2) The Colors!

Colorist Jessic Kholinne plays around with the neon decadence with such vibrant tones. Notice how the silver hue matches with Hermes’ helmet and vest. Though technology looks advanced, the tones are dreary and moody, matching Seneca’s bleak personality.

1) A Compelling Thriller!

As a sci-fi police procedural, God Complex #1 wonderfully captures a stylish vibe of self-conscious melancholia. With its mystery establishing in its first installment, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
