After a critically acclaimed first season, USA Network continues The Sinner with the Season 2 finale, Episode 8: Part 8, starring Bill Pullman and Carrie Coon. Detective Harry Ambrose (Pullman) returns to his hometown to solve another whydunit mystery.
With Julian (Elisha Henig) still missing, Heather Novack (Natalie Paul) mourns for her fallen friend. Heather hallucinates she has Marin (Hannah Gross)’s blood on her hands. Elsewhere, Vera (Carrie Coon) has arrived in New York with Julian.
As the search continues, Julian is having nightmares about the night before. He remembers watching Marin being shot in the stomach. Heather is being pushed out of the case by the Sheriff, who still refuses to have Ambrose involved.
Heather and Harry realize there is still one last connection to solve. Heather isn’t in the room when Harry interrogates her father. Harry’s childhood friend confesses he is actually Julian’s father.
In the flashbacks, Marin reveals to Heather’s father that she was sexually abused by her own mother. Heather’s father ends up taking advantage of Marin and rapes her. Marin ended up pregnant from that night; which makes Julian actually Heather’s half-brother.
Realizing Vera’s face is everywhere on the news, Julian decides to make a call to Harry. The NYPD comes speeding in towards their hideout but Vera spots them. She ends up taking Julian to a nearby Chinese restaurant.
Julian reveals he doesn’t want to go back. Vera breaks down crying because he knows she is not his mother. Julian knows they will take him away from her and he will only see her after he turns 18. But he doesn’t want her to die.
During the trial, Harry defends Julian, who understands what he did was wrong. In the end, it appears Harry ad Heather are granted guardianship of Julian. Having lost everything and her son, Vera burns down everything at Mosswood.
Harry discovers what happened that night with Vera. They both were playing sexual mind games with each other. Sexually aroused, Vera choked him until he was unconscious.
After arriving at Niagara Falls, Harry And Julian try to be happy, but they know what they will have to live with the taint of darkness within them.
Season 2 of The Sinner continues Wednesdays at 10pm on USA Network.
