A gritty re-imagining of the popular heroes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Urban Legends #3 (IDW Publishing) continues to thrillingly choreograph its bloody martial arts action. Check out the entire Image Comics TMNT run (a.k.a TMNT Volume 3) now reprinted in full, four-color glory!

In this issue, Leonardo desperately seeks out the lost Master Splinter and the badly wounded Donatello via the Astral Plane. Meanwhile, Mikey and Raph are caught in a fight for their lives against Pimiko and her attacking minions!

Here are 5 reasons why you should get Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Urban Legends #3:

5) What Happened Before!

The TMNT and Master Splinter were attacked in their lair by a group of cyborgs led by the female ninja called Pimiko. Master Splinter’s communication with his children has been suddenly cut off. While Donatello is on the loose, Pimiko strikes again at the cemetery where the Turtles have been hiding.

4) The Writing!

Writer Gary Carlson juxtaposes the Turtles fighting against Pimiko’s assassins with Splinter’s return. Notice how Splinter is being seduced by corruption while the brothers are being manhandled by scantily clad vixens. Letterer Chris Eliopoulos emphasizes certain words in the dialogue balloons during the action-packed sequence.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Frank Fosco illustrates a new character design for Raphael. Because his face was scared in the fire, Raph has his face wrapped with bandages, like a mummy in an old-school horror movie. The inks by Andrew Pepoy highlight the muscles of the female assassins, especially Pimiko’s when she fights Leonardo.

2) The Colors!

Red is just splattered everywhere thanks to colorist Adam Guzowski. The blue tones stand out in Donatello’s spiritual visit into the astral plane.

1) A Bold Read!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Urban Legends #3 delivers more action sequences that will engage readers. The third issue ends on a shocking twist!
