A tremendously fun-filled read, Goosebumps: Monsters at Midnight #3 enjoys mixing up tons of scares and laughs for its readers. At the core of the nostalgic franchise, Goosebumps continues to put kids in scary peril in this fast-paced horror anthology.

As we previously mentioned, Mia and Ginny have been staying at their Grandma’s mothball-filled house for the summer. Just as expected, boredom forces them to venture out into her tiny town. What the two actually find in an old used bookstore launches them into an upside-down world of mayhem and terror.

Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Goosebumps: Monsters at Midnight #3:

5) Makes Me Want To Read The Books!

Capturing the ‘80s vibe, Monsters at Midnight is everything readers have loved about R.L. Stine’s books. A fun tribute to EC Comics, the third installment also puts its own spin on Slappy. The most popular character from the Goosebumps series, Slappy continues his evil reign at Horrorland.

4) The Anti-Bullying!

Writer Jeremy Lambert really hits home with his anti-bullying message. Lambert reminds readers that it’s perfectly okay to be yourself, even if you are a monster. It’s really interesting how the narrative can point at Irk as both the bully and victim.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Chris Fenoglio has to do something tricky, making Irk look scary and adorable at the same time. Fenoglio adds that little detail of illustrating Mia in the background, tending to her broken leg while Irk squeezes the life out of Ginny. There is one really gross-out scene where someone’s face is covered with worms (EWWW!).

2) The Colors!

Brittany Peer’s bright colors really pop out even when the lighting is dim. The green shading highlights the ‘80s horror vibe I was referring to before. The pink/purplish tones really add something extra to the jump scares.

1) A Fun Welcome!

If you grew up on Goosebumps, then  you’re going to love those clever nods in Monsters at Midnight. Though it’s the concluding chapter of the arc, I really hope this isn’t the last issue of series.
