During the recent San Diego Comic-Con 2018, the DC Universe released the official trailer of Titans, starring Brenton Thwaites and Minka Kelly. As the new subscription digital TV service, Titans will be the major centerpiece of the launch.
A team of young superheroes led by Robin (Thwaites) form to combat evil and other perils.
Here are 5 reasons why we love the Titans official trailer:
5) It’s Dick Grayson!
Brenton Thwaites will be playing Dick Grayson, who is on the cusp of being too old to be the boy wonder and just at the helm of Nightwing. I do like that Grayson is a cop as he appears to be interrogating the runaway known as Raven (Teagan Croft).
4) Potty Mouth!
I never Grayson being a foul mouth but hey, I’m all for it! Executive Producer Geoff Johns reveals to Polygon, “If you look at when Robin first left Batman in the comics, there was a lot of uneasiness and him being lost. Titans is really a series about these different characters that are all lost in their lives; just like the greatest comic book Titans run ever, by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, it’s about all these lost characters find one another. And they’re all struggling with something, and Robin is clearly struggling with his past with Batman.”
3) Hawk & Dove!
Minka Kelly will be playing Dawn Granger and Alan Ritchson will be seen as Hank Hall. Together, they will be known as Hawk and and Dove, and their action sequences will be bloody! With their costumes comic accurate, I wonder if Dove will be suppressing Hawk’s rage. I thought Ritchson did a great job in the grindhouse exploitation series, Blood Drive; looking forward to seeing him here!
2) The Lyrics!
Feel the fury closing in
All resistance wearing thin
Nowhere to run from all of this havoc
Nowhere to hide from all of this madness, madness, madness
Madness, madness, madness
1) The Special Effects!
We haven’t seen Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) shape-shift into a green animal. The footage does reveal Starfire (Anna Diop) unleashing her fiery powers. In the comics, Starfire is an orange-skinned alien with red hair, wearing a purple costume, and has green eyes. Good luck making that work in live-action! I expect the special effects to be more defined in the next trailer, but overall, I’m excited about the show!
Titans will arrive sometime in the fall 2018 exclusively on the DC Universe.
