An incredible installment, WWE #23 (BOOM! Studios) delivers another triumphant tale about the phenomenal one, A.J. Styles! Readers are definitely going to enjoy the inspiring behind-the-scenes theatrics from their favorite superstar!
AJ Styles has regained the WWE Title, only to immediately be thrown into his biggest challenge yet: facing Universal Champion Brock Lesnar in a Champ vs. Champ SURVIVOR SERIES match!
Here are 5 reasons why you should read WWE #23:
5) What Happened Before…
During his humble beginnings, A. J. Styles struggles to make a name for himself. After so many rejections, Styles refuses to give up and stays strong for his wife. Styles realizes that in order to remain at the top of his game, he cannot resort to cheating. He has to be able to confront his opponents head-on, like John Cena.
4) The Writing!
Writer Dennis Hopeless examines the difference between the bully and being bullied. With an unbreakable ego, Brock Lesner just takes what he wants. Letterer Jim Campbell captures Styles’ torture as a child and as an adult: there will always be a bully picking on you .
3) The Artwork!
Artist Kendall Goode does a great job illustrating the anti-bullying message from child to adult. In the opening pages, a young A.J. Styles makes brawls with his bully in the backyard. Then as an adult, A.J. is still making those same mistakes against Brock in the ring. Goode also does an amazing job with the Cien Almas short,”Eyes on the Prize.”
2) The Colors!
Notice how colorist Doug Garbark highlights the yellow tones in the childhood flashbacks. The palette has a warm and soft vibe, as if these were easier times for Styles. A shade of purple keeps popping up, whether it’s in the ring, or on A.J.’s clothing .
