Focus Features has released an action-packed clip entitled Chapter 1: Father Figure from their upcoming flick, Atomic Blonde. Watch Charlize Theron (Prometheus) become MI6’s most lethal assassin as she fights her way to stay alive during her deadly mission.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, former stunt choreographer/director David Leitch describes the fast and tight choreography behind the action sequences, “When you have someone who can do it, you have a lot more freedom in how you want to express it visually. In terms of martial arts style, she gave me the flexibility to do everything I wanted to do.”

5. George Michael
When the police arrive, agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) slides in a cassette tape and George Michael’s “Father Figure” starts playing. The song comes from the English singer’s debut album, Faith, back in 1987. Notice the juxtaposition between the hard-hitting action as the pop ballad continues.
4. No Dialogue
Except for a few loud grunts here and there, the scene practically has no dialogue. The Monster actress relies on her physicality and facial expressions to capture the high adrenaline and rush of emotion.
3. The Epic Beatdown
During my favorite part of the clip, Lorraine (Theron) grabs a club from one of the fallen officers and she uses their own weapon against them. In one unedited take, Lorraine bashes their heads in with the club and kicks an officer onto a glass table.
2. The Rope
Not as gruesome as Machete, Lorraine has to make her escape by jumping out of a window. In the grindhouse exploitation pic, Machete (Danny Trejo) rips out someone’s organs before making his getaway. A different take here, I’m glad this scene doesn’t steer into a bloody direction!
1. She’s Such A Badass!
Theron has always been phenomenal in such dramatic movies, Young Adult and The Cider House Rules. Ever since Mad Max: Fury Road, I just love seeing her as a action star!
Atomic Blonde arrives in theaters everywhere July 28, 2017.
