Universal Pictures Home Entertainment/Focus Features brings the action/spy thriller, Atomic Blonde, starring Charlize Theron (Prometheus) and James McAvoy (Split), onto DVD and Blu-Ray. Check out all the special features after watching MI6’s most lethal assassin fight her way to stay alive on her impossible mission.
Based on The Coldest City by writer Antony Johnston and artist Sam Hart, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) is equal parts spy, sensuality, and savagery. Lorraine is willing to deploy any of her skills in order to stay alive on her impossible mission. Sent to Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier, she reluctantly partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy). She finds herself navigating her way through the deadliest game of spies.
Check out our 5 reasons to get Atomic Blonde on DVD and Blu-Ray:
5) She’s Such A Badass!
Theron has always been phenomenal in such dramatic movies, Young Adult and The Cider House Rules. Ever since Mad Max: Fury Road, I just love seeing her as a action star! The Monster actress relies on her flexible physicality and facial expressions to capture the high adrenaline and rush of emotion.
4) Sofia Boutella!
Screw the naysayers, I loved Sofia Boutella in The Mummy! I was very excited to see the Kingsman starlet here as well. Boutella has such intense and fiery chemistry, especially when she shares a steamy scene with Theron.
3) The Staircase!
My favorite part in the movie is when Lorraine (Theron) delivers an epic beatdown in the middle of a staircase. The action sequences almost feels like it was done almost in one take, playing with its camerawork and vibrant photography. Just like he did with John Wick, director David Leitch knows how to keep the action flowing with very little edits.
2) The Music!
Not your typical spy movie, music supervisor John Houlihan put together an eclectic soundtrack of ‘80s-era classic songs. George Michael’s “Father Figure” plays perfectly during Lorraine’s fight scenes. While watching the Blu-Ray, take note of the juxtaposition between the action as the pop ballad continues.
