The Force Awakens continues the sci-fi saga and introduces audiences to our latest Jedi-in-training, Rey (Daisy Ridley). On May 4th, legions of fans will celebrate the Star Wars legacy created by the one and only George Lucas.
Time has passed but no one has forgotten the destruction of the second Death Star. Rising from the ashes, the First Order has taken the place of the fallen Galactic Empire. While Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) follows in the footsteps of his idol, Darth Vader, Rey (Ridley) discovers The Resistance is calling out for her. The Republic will bring together new heroes, Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Finn (John Boyega), with the legends from before, Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford).
Here are 5 reasons why we love Daisy Ridley as Rey in The Force Awakens:
5) Her Relationship With BB-8!
Though BB-8 makes robotic sounds over the course of the movie, did you know the cute and lively droid is actually female? That’s right, she’s a girl! It’s a road trip into space with Rey and BB-8, who never leave each other’s side.
4) All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues!
If you remember, writer/director J.J. Abrams played a big part in the first season of Lost. Did you ever even realize the most memorable characters from the show, Like Kate, Jack, and Sawyer, have issues with their father. Abrams continues with the Lost tradition and introduces Rey as an orphan.
3) Rey Flies The Millennium Falcon!
While being chased by the First Order, Finn and Rey find themselves inside the Millennium Falcon. As the shooting continues, Rey sits right down in the pilot’s seat and grabs the controls. Dodging incoming lasers, the Millennium Falcon soars like never before after being abandoned in a desert junkyard.
2) Daisy Ridley Owns The Spotlight!
Plucked from obscurity, the English actress played bit parts here and there, even playing a corpse in Silent Witness. In her breakout role, Ridley demonstrates her charisma, strength, and feistiness in every scene!
1) Rey Fights Kylo Ren!
It’s not Star Wars without a great lightsaber battle! As the world around them crumbles, Kylo takes the offense and slashes repeatedly at Rey. Finally accepting the Force within her, Rey recognizes Kylo’s weakness, gains the upper-hand, and manages to leave a sever scar on his face.
May The Force be with you on May the 4th.
