Before the highly anticipated premiere on HBO, Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” takes over the official trailer from Westworld Season 2. Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton return in Person of Interest creators Jonathan Nolan (Memento) and Lisa Joy (Pushing Daisies)’s visually stunning re-imagination of Michael Crichton’s feature film.
As we previously mentioned, Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and evolution of sin. The futuristic park is set between the intersection of the near future and reimagined past. Every human appetite, no matter how depraved or noble, can be indulged.
[Spoilers! We’ll be discussing the plot twists from the first season]
Check out our 5 thoughts on the Westworld Season 2 official trailer:
5) The Music!
Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi continues his experimentation of planting musical easter eggs with a sense of modern familiarity. His cover songs are usually warped renditions synced from a player piano. The park’s western landscape has an eerie vibe as a reckoning is promised.
4) The Aftermath!
The timelines came together as Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) staged his own death and caused a bloody massacre. Freed from her programming, Maeve Millay (Newton) appears to be continuing her search for her missing daughter. So my question is, how did Bernard Lowe (Wright) end up in the waters?!?
3) The Lyrics!
She eyes me like a Pisces when I am weak
I’ve been locked inside your heart-shaped box for weeks
I’ve been drawn into your magnetar pit trap trap
I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black
2) New Faces!
According to Entertainment Weekly, Rinko Kikuchi will be playing a character named Akane. In the trailer, Kikuchi appears to be a geisha in ShogunWorld. Teased in the first season finale, ShogunWorld is a feudal Japan park owned by Delos Incorporated.
1) A Bigger World!
We’re going outside the maze! Dolores Abernathy (Wood) is dressed to kill as she supposedly leaves Westworld. But what will she discover when she’s on the outside?
Westworld: The Complete First Season is out on DVD and Blu-Ray. Season 2 of Westworld premieres on HBO April 22 at 9pm.
