An adrenaline-stimulating cyberpunk read, Fallen World #1 (Valiant Entertainment) has a lot of fun capturing the feel and details of its very own futuristic society. With such teasing action and breathtaking sights, readers will want to know more about Rai after this slick sci-fi adventure.
In the year 4002, a cyborg samurai named Rai struggles to find his morality. The nanite-filled super-soldier Bloodshot is on a mission to save the citizens of Earth. Will they work together for the greater good? All signs point to no.
Here are 5 reasons why you should get Fallen World #1:
5) It’s A Breakthrough!

Valiant’s Senior Editorial Director Robert Meyers reveals what’s in store from the upcoming lineup of new #1s, “These are extraordinary stories told by master storytellers, featuring comics’ most compelling villain, Toyo Harada; the main stage debut of Punk Mambo; the evolution of the future; and perhaps the scariest assembly of super-spies the Valiant Universe has ever seen.”
4) The Writing!
Writer Dan Abnett has created a dystopian future, where I kid you not, dinosaurs on the loose. While Abnett has done a fantastic job of world-building, he also sneaks in a layer of politics in this future society. The lettering also focuses on Rai’s loneliness and internal struggle to to become a good leader.
3) The Artwork!
The illustrations by artist Adam Pollina are quite magnificent in grand view. Earth has been divided into sectors, from the desert landscape to the snowy mountains. In his character design, Rai looks like a western figure with his poncho and red scarf.
2) The Colors!
Rai’s entire body is mix of two colors, red and white. The clashing tones represent his internal struggle to find peace and participate in battle. Notice how Karana’s green wardrobe stands out in front of the snowy backgrounds.
1) A Great Sci-Fi Read!
An engaging sci-fi spectacle, Fallen World #1 has an interesting back-story when kickstarting its world-building. I can’t wait to find out what happens next after that cliffhanger!
Fallen World #1 arrives in stores May 1st, 2019.
