Netflix has announced the highly anticipated Season 2 premiere date of  their wrestling series GLOW,  starring Alison Brie, Marc Macron, and Betty Gilpin. The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling are coming back with more wrestling action and colorful spandex with an ‘80s themed music video.

As we previously mentioned, Ruth Wilder (Brie) is an out-of-work actress living in Los Angeles. During the ‘80s, Wilder discovers an unexpected chance at stardom. She has to enter the glitter and spandex-laden world of women’s wrestling, where she must work alongside 12 other Hollywood misfits. Leading this pack, Sam Sylvia (Marc Macron), a washed-up director of low-budget B movies, has to deliver on his promise of fame.

SPOILERS AHEAD! Here are 5 why we’re excited for the Season 2 return of GLOW:

5) Female Empowerment!

Brie tells Deadline how the show’s themes resonate with the current female empowerment movements, “The stories our show was going to tell would have been the same. MeToo and Times’s Up are things people have been saying behind closed doors for a long time in our industry. It makes me very grateful as an actress to go to work every day. There are women behind and in front of the camera and at the top making decisions. It makes a big difference to feel really seen and heard on set and have ownership of yourself.”

4) The Stakes Are Higher!

GLOW will return with a 10-episode run for its sophomore season. Netflix announced the return date at its See What’s Next event. The stakes are higher now that the women have become local celebrities as Sam has his own personal and creative problems raising a teenage daughter.

3) Maniac!

In the music video, the ensemble cast can be seen dancing through the locker rooms. Playing in the background, you may remember Michael Sembello’s song Maniac from the Flashdance soundtrack.

2) A New Story!

What do GLOW creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, who also executive produce the series with Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan, have in stores for audiences? Well, best friends Ruth (Brie) and Debbie (Gilpin) still haven’t made up, even though they stole the show in the first season finale.

1) New Cast Member!

Shakira Barrera joined the cast as Yolanda aka Yo-Yo, a Mexican American dancer/stripper and out-and-proud lesbian.

GLOW will return on Netflix for Season 2 on June 29, 2018.
