Before the horror/drama returns from its Season 8 break, AMC has announced the renewal of The Walking Dead with Season 9. Let’s take an in-depth look at the latest changes, and what it could mean for the upcoming Season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead.
As we previously mentioned, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) has declared war against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Alexandria has joined with the survivors of the Hilltop and the Kingdom against Sanctuary. After the loss of crucial members of his team, Rick is more than ready for some payback against Negan and the Saviors. But can Rick continue on with his mission after an unexpected personal loss strikes?
[SPOILERS Ahead] Here are 5 reasons we’re very excited for Season 9 of The Walking Dead!

Angela Kang, who has been a writer on the show since 2011 and co-executive producer since 2013, has now been promoted by Scott Gimple to showrunner of The Walking Dead. Starting with season nine, there will be a new voice in charge and I couldn’t be more excited! In this turbulent time, with the #MeToo movement and new allegations/names coming forward, to see a female showrunner take charge is a rare in the television landscape and a much-needed change for diversity. Kang has the voice and experience to steer the horror franchise to new heights.
4) A New Direction!
Kang describes the promotion, “I am beyond thrilled to be stepping into this new role with ‘The Walking Dead.’ Working on this series and having the opportunity to adapt Robert Kirkman’s amazing comic has been a fangirl dream come true for me.”
3) New Chief Content Officer!
Showrunner Scott M. Gimple is also being elevated to Chief Content Officer, which means he will be overseeing the entire “Dead” television universe.
2) What Happens After?!?
I’m anxious to see what will happen to Carl (Chandler Riggs) in the mid-season premiere! All-Out War has been gearing towards the ultimate battle between Rick and Negan. What will happen afterwards after they have their confrontation?
1) The New Fear Cast!
As we previously mentioned, Lennie James joins a new ensemble cast of Fear the Walking Dead , which includes Garret Dillahunt, Maggie Grace, and Jenna Elfman. The latest Entertainment Weekly issue will take an exclusive first look at the new characters.
The Entertainment Weekly issue featuring The Walking Dead has already hits newsstands. The Walking Dead Season 8 will return for its midseason premiere on Sunday, February 25th, 2018 at 9pm on AMC.
