Warner Bros. Pictures, with LuckyChap/Clubhouse Production and a Kroll & Co. Entertainment Production, presents the slick and action-packed official trailer to Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Based on the popular DC Comics anti-heroine, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) returns for an all-new adventure after making her live-action debut in Suicide Squad.
As we previously mentioned, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)is directed by Cathy Yan. The film stars Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, Ewan McGregor, and Roman Sionis, and Ella Jay Basco. Yan directed from a script by Christina Hodson, based on characters from DC. Robbie also produced, alongside Bryan Unkeless and Sue Kroll. The film’s executive producers includes Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman, Geoff Johns, David Ayer, and Hans Ritter.
Here are 5 reasons to we love the official trailer to Birds of Prey:
5) It’s About Empowerment!
Harley Quinn (Robbie) has just been ditched up with her puddin’ and the bad breakup has left her emotionally wrecked. After chopping off her hair, Harley needs to establish who she is without the Joker. The best kind of revenge after a breakup is showing how successful you are without them.
4) Origin Story!
The trailer does a fantastic job of introducing the other badass characters. The Black Canary (Smollett-Bell) is presented as a lounge singer. Huntress (Winstead) rides a motorcycle and has her crossbow gun just like her comic book counterpart. Detective Renee Montoya (Perez) has to go outside the law in order to bring down the big bad, psychotic mobster Roman Sionis (McGregor) aka Black Mask.
3) Black Mask!
Whatever his beef is with Quinn, Roman Sionis (McGregor) says she is his property; she belongs to him. With his blonde looks, Chris Messina is quite menacing as the serial killer Zsasz. Harley warns the others, “He’s after all of us now.”
2) The Best Line Ever!
In the tribute to Marilyn Monroe, recreating the Madonna music video for “Material Girl,” Harley wears the iconic pink dress. Why the homage? “Because Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend!” That’s why! As if getting her self-confidence back, Harley proudly states, “I’m the one they should be scared of! Not you, not Mr. J! Because I’m Harley freakin’ Quinn!” And I’m pretty sure she didn’t say freakin’!
