Orion Pictures has announced the highly anticipated December theatrical release date for the upcoming zombie musical, Anna and the Apocalypse. Gaining critical acclaim, the festival gem became an audience favorite at Fantastic Fest and the Sitges Film Festival, winning Best Midnight X-Treme Feature.
A zombie apocalypse threatens the sleepy town of Little Haven. During Christmas, the undead are forcing Anna (Ella Hunt) and her friends to fight, slash and sing their way to survival. Anna will face the undead in a desperate race to reach her loved ones.
Here are 5 reasons we’re excited for Anna and the Apocalypse:
5) The Ensemble Cast!
According to Deadline, Ella Hunt (Robot Overlords) joins the ensemble cast alongside Malcom Cummings, Ben Wiggins, Sarah Swire, Christopher Leveaux, Marli Siu, Mark Benton (The Halcyon) and Paul Kaye (Game Of Thrones).
4) Where Do We Go From Here?
Have you seen Where Do We Go From Here? Director John McPhail made a sweet, quirky romantic comedy that made him an indie darling. Now McPhail is mixing musicals with Night of the Living Dead! It takes a special kind of director to say, “Yea I can make this work!”
3) In Honor Of Ryan McHenry
The screenplay written by Alan McDonald and the late Ryan McHenry (Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal videos). With his humor and creativity, McHenry is also best known for his directorial debut with Zombie Musical, which this film is based on.
2) Original Songs!
Someone actually thought up these songs and said, “We’re going to put this track here after Anna is hacking and slashing.” The film’s soundtrack features original music by Roddy Hart and Tommy Reilly. There’s even a song-and-dance number in the high school cafeteria, where Anna (Hunt) spins and high kicks!
