With an adventurous and imaginative spirit, Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack #1 (BOOM! Studios) brings back John Carpenter’s popular lunkhead for one more wild ride. The Big Trouble in Little China series benefits from its wise-ass hero who delivers the funniest one-liners.

The year is 2020, and Hell is literally on Earth. Ching Dai has broken the barriers between Earth and the infinite hells. While Ching Dai has declared himself ruler of all, 60-year-old Jack Burton sits alone in a tiny corner of Florida.  One day, Jack hears a message from his broken radio. Someone is out there in the hellscape, and they know a way to stop Ching Dai.

Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack #1:

5) Jack’s Back!

The director of the original Big Trouble in Little China, of your favorite slasher movie, Halloween, of your favorite monster movie,The Thing, is back with a vengeance! Filmmaker John Carpenter returns and shares writing duties with Anthony Burch (Borderlands 2). With two great minds working together, their script is filled with so many fun visuals and laugh-out-loud dialogue.

4) The Funniest One-Liners!

The first installment is incredibly fun! The running dialogue definitely has Kurt Russell’s voice down pat. At his old age, Jack Burton delivers his famous lines, because those are the ones he can still remember, and has some new wisecracks to say on his wild goose chase.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Jorge Corona has a fun and surreal take of drawing a small leading man in a world of giants. Jack Burton has been fortunate not to lose his hair. He’s also stuck in nostalgia, wearing the same ‘80s clothing, and reliving his heyday while talking to a broken radio.

2) Hell of Minor Discomforts!

My favorite part of the first issue is when Jack Burton enters the Hell of Minor Discomforts. Corona captures Burton’s bumbling personality in splasticky action sequences. A major highlight is how Gabriel Cassata lets the primary colors stand out in the backgrounds.

1) A Very Fun Read!

Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack #1 is filled with filled zany characters and relishes on being a campy guilty pleasure, much like the original. The Big Trouble In Little China series continues to be great entertainment for all!
