An entertaining mashup of scary monsters and superhero action, Tales of the Night Watchman #7 (So What? Press) will definitely keep the reader engaged to the very last page. This is an advance review of Tales of the Night Watchman, which works so well as a standalone installment that you’ll want to grab and check out the previous issues.

Tales of the Night Watchman is the story of Nora, a blogger stuck working a dead end job. Her roommate, Charlie, has been possessed by a spectral detective calling himself, The Night Watchman. Baristas by day, heroes by night, Nora and Charlie answer the call to fight  Brooklyn’s most toxic monster.

Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Tales of the Nightwatchman #7:

5) The City Is Alive!

Writer Dave Kelly captures New York with such diversity, depicting the different races living within each borough. Kelly’s social commentary strikes through as the Night Watchman protects the helpless middle class and the unwanted underdogs. In this riveting tale, the Night Watchman reluctantly provides protection to a killer responsible for the death of a young boy.

4) The Horror!

Artist Brett Hobson delivers nightmarish delights with The Gowanus Golem. The swamp-like creature is able to replicate itself and create an unstoppable horde of monsters. Hobson’s illustrations are at their best during the climatic battle as the action takes place on a moving train.

3) The Colors!

Clare DeZutti keeps the city landscape alive with such vibrant colors. An underground club, more like a dive, is lit with purple and pink tones. Notice how the panels standout when the Gowanus Golem arrives; the only thing green is the creature.

2) Christmas Time Is Here!

Writer Dave Kelly and artist Brett Hobson present the heartache and warmth of the holidays. The exteriors have a touch of light snow and the characters are wearing winter jackets. The creators do such a wonderful job pulling at the heart strings with the somber and touching narrative

1) One Helluva Ride!

Tales of the Night Watchman #7 makes good on the premise, featuring tons of monsters and action. Readers will definitely become fans after reading this thrilling issue.
