Returning from break with even more plot twists and action, NBC continues Blindspot Season 3 with Episode 9: Hot Burning Flames. Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) and Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) are back together solving the cases behind the mystery tattoos.
The fallout FBI Director Eleanor Hirst (Mary Stuart Masterson) has left the team exhausted but some are still pumped for work. After a major crime occurred, Tasha (Audrey Esparza), Edgar Reade (Rob Brown), and Patterson (Ashley Johnson) end up trying to figure out their latest puzzle. After putting the clues together, they discovered where the recent robbery was live-streamed.
Elsewhere, Kurt reveals what actually happened in Berlin. Jane’s daughter, Avery (Kristina Reyes), was indeed looking for her but she ended up in a trap. During the intense shootout, Kurt accidentally shot Avery and left her for dead.
During his investigation, Reade discovers a secret facility was burglarized and one of the warheads was stolen. After meeting with Dave Kirkpatrick (Peter Oldring), Reade and Tasha apprehend the insider involved in the heist. It turns out to be an innocent father scared for his kidnapped son.
Keaton (Chad Donella) reveals Lana Stepulov (Julia Crockett) is behind the missing warhead. Lana wants revenge for the death of her brother at the hands of the CIA. Lana sends in a text to the team, telling them where the kidnapped boy is being held.
Jane is too furious with Kurt to even concentrate on the job. She ends getting shot at during the rescue of the boy. Though Jane’s still alive and well, Reade gives her a yelling for acting so foolishly. The clock is ticking as Lana intends on using the warhead.
With an assist from Dave and Keaton, Patterson is able to figure out which plane Lana will use to detonate the warhead. Lana has the wristwatch, which is connected to the warhead’s timer. Lana falls out of the plane, along with the warhead, after Kurt shoots her.
In a spectacular stunt, Kurt jumps out of the plane and skydives towards Lana’s dead body. With seconds to spare, Kurt punches in the code on Lana’s wristwatch and deactivates the warhead. With the warhead in the Hudson, Kurt has saved the day, but not his marriage.
Reade and the rest of the team are now on the hunt to bring down Hank Crawford (David Morse). While Roman discovers one of Hank’s own men, Victor (Anthony Lemke) is double-crossing him, Reade is willing to play the long game to stop him. Tasha is also playing one of her own mind games with Reade, showing her true allegiance to Keaton.
Jane is too heartbroken to stay with Kurt and leaves their wedding ring with him. Meanwhile, Avery is still alive and being held hostage.
Blindspot continues Fridays at 8m on NBC.
