A tantalizing mix of murder and dark magic, Jordie Bellaire and Vanesa R. Del Rey love bringing in tons of gore and scares with Redlands #3 (Image Comics). A mesmerizing thriller, horror fans will definitely get what they’re craving for from this chilling issue.
As we previously mentioned, readers will find themselves introduced to the sleepy, sunny town of Redlands, Florida. The police are failing to maintain control of their old-fashioned town. Their problems are just starting though as a coven of killer witches plan to take everything from them.
Here are 5 reasons why you should read Redlands #3:
5) Feast Day!

The third installment definitely plays around with the double meaning of “Feast Day.” Even with the crime rate, the townspeople have the biggest hearts in Redlands. The biggest beasts have an unquenchable thirst that no animal or serial killer is safe.
4) Scary Southern Gothic!
Writer Jordie Bellaire explores the swampy atmosphere and emphasizes the shadowy landscape. Notice how Bellaire’s color palette picks out the smallest light source in the darkness. It definitely looks like there are eyes watching you when the fireflies swirl around in the dark woods.
3) My Favorite Character!

The third issue introduced my favorite character, the tough-talking Laurent. The anti-hero may or may not have a license, but he is the best bounty hunter in town. I really hope this isn’t the last time we meet Laurent.
2) The Artwork!
Artist Vanesa R. Del Rey captures captures two different styles in the narrative; one for night and the other for day. During the day time, Del Rey focuses on the environment and the muggy heat of the swamp. It’s interesting how day can just be scary when there’s an unlicensed bounty hunter walking around.

Redlands #3 stands out as a standalone installment for new readers. And still, if you’ve been reading the previous issues, followers will know this is actually the start of something bigger in scope.
