USA Network continues Season 8 of the popular lawyer drama, Suits, starring Gabriel Macht and Katherine Heigl, with Episode 5: Good Mudding. Now that Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) has left the firm, is lawyer Harvey Specter (Macht) ready to get back and take on new court cases?
Marcus (Billy Miller) is back and he needs Harvey as his lawyer. Marcus’ wife, Katie (Michelle Monteith) wants to file for divorce. Marcus then tells his brother that Katie caught him cheating and wants to take the children from him.
Unfortunately, that’s not the whole truth. Marcus had a relapse and went back to his gambling vices. He even used his own kid to lie for him. This really hurts Harvey because it reminds him of how his mother asked him to lie about her affair.
Ready to have a child, Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) heads on over to the sperm bank. Unfortunately, he has to meet with the doctor to discuss his sperm count. This makes Louis and Sheila worry if they’re going to have any children.
The doctor tells Louis that he has to give up mudding or his sperm count lowers. After getting this news, Louis then finds out Gretchen (Aloma Wright) is taking a day off on a terrible day. He really needs the mudding to deal with his workload.
Samantha Wheeler (Heigl) ends up chaperoning Alex (Dule Hill)’s rebellious daughter, Joy (Iman Benson). Alex’s daughter has just been suspended from school. Turns out Samantha was a bit of rebel herself, who used to make trouble at school too.
Joy and Samantha start to bond over a case. While snooping around, Joy grabs a recording of Samantha’s client confessing to his lies. Samantha is willing to use Joy’s recording in court unless the client doesn’t agree to her deal.
Alex is furious when he discovers Joy was used to manipulate Samantha’s client. Samantha and Joy start arguing over how to teach Joy about the world. Alex then forbids Joy from seeing Samantha at the office.
Katie wants sole custody of the kids, which angers Marcus. Knowing the divorce will have to get messy, Harvey will have to bend the truth to make Katie look bad. Marcus doesn’t want to go down that path and asks Harvey to reconsider.
Lily Specter (Brynn Thayer) reminds Harvey this is about forgiveness. Harvey asks Katie to give his brother a second chance. There’s still some good left in him.
Sheila and Louis realize they will have to make sacrifices to be parents; this is where it starts. Samantha convinces Joy to make up with her father. Alex then reveals to Samantha that Harvey made a promise to him about being promoted to Managing Partner.
Alex and Samantha shake hands, knowing they are competing for the same thing. The game is on…
