After a critically acclaimed first season, USA Network continues The Sinner with Season 2, Episode 3: Part III, starring Bill Pullman and Carrie Coon. Detective Harry Ambrose (Pullman) returns to his home town to solve another whydunit mystery.
While Julian (Elisha Henig) is forced out of foster care, Vera (Carrie Coon) reveals to Harry and Heather Novack (Natalie Paul) that he’s being tried as an adult. Harry manages to sit bedside Julian before the police car leaves. Harry gives Julian advice about how to act in prison and writes his number on the boy’s hand.
In a flashback, Heather wakes up and finds her girlfriend sneaking into her bedroom. Nothing much happened back at Moonwood community during the night, but Heather doesn’t believe her. Heather’s father barges in and discovers the two girls in bed together.
Back in the present, Julian is wearing an orange prison jumpsuit as he arrives at the prison. Harry wakes up after having another traumatizing nightmare He is invited to a party by his childhood buddy, Heather’s father.
At the party, Harry reveals his mother passed away in the fire. Harry has a meltdown at the party and has to be saved by his buddy. During the night, Vera climaxes as she worships the giant rock in the barn.
Julian hugs his mother when she pays a visit to him at the prison. Vera tells him to be careful during the psychology exam and forbids him to talk to Harry. Julian lies to her about Harry giving him his number.
Heather investigates her former girlfriend and examines her few belongings. She finds a book with markings inside. The word, Julian, is marked in every single page.
During the psychology exam, Julian reveals what he heard the night of the kidnapping. Unable to control himself, Julian shouts and smacks the table many times. As Vera consoles Julian, Heather tells Harry that she’s not the real mother.
Harry and Heather question Vera’s doctor, who confesses he wasn’t there when Julian was born. Vera’s doctor signed the certificate, as well as some of the other mothers at Moonwood. The doctor ends up slitting his throat after the interrogation.
Harry finds a a piece of black rock in the attic; the doctor was a member of Moonwood.
Season 2 of The Sinner continues Wednesdays at 10pm on USA Network.
