After the cliffhanger events of the tenth season, Fox presents the highly anticipated premiere of The X-Files: Season 11 with Episode 1: My Struggle III. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return as the iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
As Scully wakes up from her apocalyptic vision, The Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) is planning his next move with Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish). The future hasn’t happened yet, meaning there’s still a chance to save Mulder from dying. In order to get to William, CSM will need the help of his former snitch, Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi).
With Scully in the hospital, Jeffrey Spender (Chris Owens) finds himself under attack by a hired assassin. This entire time, Spender has been secretly hiding William’s location, protecting him from outside forces. Mulder ends up in a lengthy car chase with the same assassin and pursues him to his mysterious rendezvous.
After an unexpected visit from Jeffrey Spender, Scully gets a name, her only clue to William’s whereabouts. After leaving the hospital, Scully ends up having another vision and faints at the office. She believes her son is trying to communicate with her telepathically, warning her of what’s to come.
At an abandoned mansion in the woods, Mulder discovers the last remaining members of The Syndicate. In an attempt to save humanity, the Syndicate will only rescue the few, who happen to the rich and powerful. While they offer Mulder a chance to save himself if he gives up William’s location, Scully ends up in a car crash after another fainting vision.
After finding Scully’s crashed car, Einstein (Lauren Ambrose) and Miller (Robbie Amell) bring her back to the hospital. The assassin manages to sneak past them and attempts to choke the life out of Scully. Muller grabs a scalpel and slits the assassin’s throat, saving her in the nick of time.
Mulder realizes he has caught Skinner lying to him twice. Knowing his friend is lying to him, Mulder starts a fight with him in front of the medical staff. Skinner walks away from his friends as Mulder shouts, “What are you hiding?”
Together in Skinner’s car, Cigarette Smoking Man reveals he is William’s father. He drugged and impregnated Scully many years ago. In shock, unsure if the Cigarette Smoking Man was lying to him, Skinner is unable to tell them the truth.
Elsewhere, William speaks in a distorted voice, leaving a message to viewers, “If this is the end, it’s been a wild, wild adventure with some of the finest people I know and the greatest fans that we could’ve hoped for. Here’s to you. The truth is out there, 2018.”
Season 11 of The X-Files continues Wednesdays at 8pm on Fox.
