Sparking speculation of a major return, Pearl Jam has released the politically charged, “Can’t Deny Me,” as the brand new single from their upcoming album. Make sure to listen to this track, which is now available on streaming platforms and digital retailers, such as Spotify and Pandora.
According to Rolling Stone, “Can’t Deny Me” is first original song the grunge rockers have released since their tenth LP, Lightning Bolt, back in 2013. Premiering on Sirius XM’s Pearl Jam Radio, there’s very little detail forthcoming when the band’s next album will be released. The release also coincides with the celebration of bassist Jeff Ament’s 55th birthday.
Here are 5 reasons why we’re excited after hearing “Can’t Deny Me:”
5) It’s A Protest Song!
You can tell the track is snapping at the ineptitude of the 45th president. The artwork captures a protest in the midst of its march, with the iconic band’s name written in graffiti. The words, “Can’t Deny Me,” can also be seen on a young woman’s poster.
4) The Lyrics!
The higher, the farther, the faster you fly
You may be rich but you can’t deny me
Got nothing, got nothing but the will to survive
You can’t control and you can’t deny me
3) Let’s Collaborate!
The artwork we just mentioned was created by Jeff Ament and Kevin Shuss. The song was written by Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready. They recorded the track over at Seattle back in February of 2018 with producer Brendan O’Brien.
2) 5 Years Later!
Times have changed but nostalgia still rules. This will be the group’s first new original release in over five years. If this is the first song from their previously undisclosed forthcoming album, I can’t wait to hear what the rest of the tracklist is like!
1) Tour Dates!
Pearl Jam is kicking off a South American tour later this March. The band also has shows scheduled for the UK, Europe, and North America. See the full itinerary here, and grab your tickets! [Note: Link in Bold]
