Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Spencer & Locke 2 #1:
5) A Bigger World!
As mentioned in our Spencer & Locke 2 interview, artist Jorge Santiago Jr. teases, “With volume 2, we get to see how much bigger the world is. And by adding other comic strips into our world, we can really dig deep and mine some interesting story from here on!”
4) The Writing!
Not only has the relationship between Locke and his partner taken a step forward, writer David Pepose has created an antagonist, Roach Riley, just as appealing and captivating. The old saying is quite true, your hero is only as good as the bad guy.The lettering by Colin Bell captures a twisted solider, traumatized by war, on a merciless killing spree.
3) The Artwork!
Artist Jorge Santiago Jr. has captured a terrifying villain who hides his face. Santiago uses shadows and Roach’s own cap to cover up his eyes. A throwback to Calvin and Hobbes and Beetle Bailey, there’s a nine panel fight sequence that echoes the themes of trauma and lost innocence.
2) The Colors!
The colors of Jasen Smith capture the bight primary tones of Calvin and Hobbes and Beetle Bailey. Notice during Spencer’s memorable entrance, the lighting has turned blue to match his skin color. Roach stands out in the pages because of his purple flesh.
