A horror crossover of epic proportions, Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho-Tep (Dynamite Entertainment and IDW Publishing) has been fantastically collected together in a must-have trade paperback. Two groovy icons are “all shook up” when they find themselves in the “jailhouse rock” against monsters.
Ash embarks on a soul-searching road trip to Texas on a hunch that Elvis Presley may still be alive and kicking (and supposedly vanquished a mummy)! What follows is a series of universe-spanning events that involve an Elvis jumpsuit with special time-travel abilities, a trip to 70’s Vegas, plus the reveal of an evil new Book of the Dead, the Necronomicon Ho-Tep. Has Ash met his ultimate match when trading barbs with a 4,000-year-old, foul-mouthed mummy who sucks souls?
Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho-Tep:
5) The Cult Classics!

Two Kings clash! Actually, they get along pretty well…
Their wacky adventure is compiled all together for the first time this week!@Scott_Duvall @VincenzoFederi4 @Galindoart pic.twitter.com/tmc0GXNvK6
From the Evil Dead movies, Ash has time-traveled to the medieval past and returned to the present day in order to defeat the Deadites. From Bubba Ho-Tep, Elvis Presley may have secluded himself from the rest of the world, but an Egyptian Mummy brought him back to life.
4) The Writing!
Writer Scott Duvall has kept the tone of both horror flicks and managed to stylize the voice of Bruce Campbell, who played both roles. Duvall captures the brash wittiness of Ash’s one-liners and Elvis’ annoyance with fame. Letterer Taylor Esposito bolds certain words during the memorable action sequences, especially when Elvis’ private jet crash-lands into Graceland.
3) The Artwork!
Artist Vincenzo Federici does a fantastic job with Elvis’ character designs, capturing the rock star during different time periods. In the action-packed pages, Federici heightens Elvis’ high-flying kicks and Ash’s shootouts in kinetic poses. The Deadites have a scary and menacing look throughout the narrative.
2) The Colors!
Colorist Michele Monte has such a vivid and bouncy palette when it comes to the locations. ‘70s Las Vegas has such bright tones and a colorful atmosphere. Notice how the colors are degraded to match Ash’s beaten and crappy car from the movies.
