5) What Happened Before!
Dick Tracy finds himself fighting crime in different decades. Even when Tracy is on a romantic date with Tess Trueheart, he is dedicated to the job and obsessed with laying down the law. Waking up in the future, Tracy is smack-dab in the middle of a high speed chase.
4) The Writing!
Writer/artist Michael Avon Oeming delivers a modern twist behind an old police procedural cliche. Tracy reluctantly finds himself working side-by-side with Private Eye Bricks Walker. In the classic noir novels, there’s always an unexplained rivalry behind private eyes and detectives. Letterer Shawn Lee focuses on the pulp dialogue, while also highlighting the sound effects of the tommy guns.
3) The Artwork!
Oeming does a a great job with the off-the-wall character design of Rabe. Notice how Rabe’s entire head, including his beard, is shaped like broccoli. Like an old-school gangster, Rabe has on a shirt and tie, along with a trench-coat.
2) The Colors!
Colorist Taki Soma separates Tracy and Bricks by their distinct colors. Tracy has his iconic yellow trench-coat and Bricks stands out with his purple trench-coat. Even the sound effects have their own special color.
