As the exciting crossover event concludes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, the vampire without a soul, team-up for an epic finale with Hellmouth #5 (BOOM! Studios). From the mind of Joss Whedon, the Hellmouth has been opened and the Hellmother has found the perfect vessel to walk the earth.
Angel and Buffy finally confront the enemy in the heart of the Hellmouth, but the journey has already taken its tolls. Beaten in body and spirit, they might not have enough power between them to save the world. …
Here are 5 reasons why you should read Hellmouth #5:
5) What Happened Before!
After recruiting Charles Gunn, Angel had to leave to Los Angeles on an urgent matter. Buffy, along with her friends, are trying to be normal teens during the school dance. When the ground suddenly opens up, the gates of Hell have been unlocked. Sunnydale has to live in a world without Buffy as the slayer has been swallowed into Hellmouth. In penultimate issue, Xander sacrifices himself so that Willow can continue the fight and save Buffy.
4) The Writing!
Writers Jordie Bellaire and Jeremy Lambert present the possessed Angel as something much worse than Angelus and terrifying as the Hellmother. The suspense builds as a weakened Buffy fights by herself against an all-powerful antagonist. Letter Ed Dukeshire heightens the witty humor during the action-extravaganza as Willow, Anya, and Cordelia arrive in the nick of time to rescue Buffy.
3) The Artwork!
The artwork by Elenora Carlini really shines after the action and in the emotional epilogue. Xander’s sacrifice takes a heavy toll on the tight knit group, especially on a guilt-ridden Giles. It’s a heartbreaking read, especially with emotions caught in closeups.
2) The Colors!
Colorist Cris Peter has an orange and yellow color palette with the landscape in the Hellmouth. Notice how the bright colors are more subtle and grounded after the epic battle. Without spoiling too much, the colors by Mattia Iacono are taken to another level, teasing something new, in the last pages.
1) For The Fans!
Hellmouth #5 features sacrifices, an epic battle against the Big Bad, and a teasing epilogue. Buffy and Angel fans are going to love these two sharing the spotlight again.
Hellmouth #5 arrives in stores on February 11th, 2019.
