[There will be spoilers because there’s no escaping the internet.] Here are 5 reasons why you should read The Walking Dead #193:
5) The Ending!
Wow… really touched by all the kind messages we’ve been receiving. I wish I could reply personally to all of you, but there’s too many and not enough time. So thank you again to everyone – YOU made the book what it is. @Skybound @RobertKirkman

I have been a huge fan of the The Walking Dead ever sinceI read the first issues came out from Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore. Since the beginning, the narrative has always been about the relationship between parents and their children. The final issue comes full circle as the final confrontation takes place between Carl, Rick Grimes’ son, and Hershel, Glenn’s kid.
4) The Writing!
Old Man Carl has witnessed the return of civilization, as railroads are making connections and the government has been reinstated. Writer Robert Kirkman cleverly explores how society makes a profit out of the undead; a metaphor for slavery. The lettering by Russ Wooton really drives home the sentiment behind Carl’s emotional monologues.
3) The Artwork!

Artist Charlie Adlard captures the suspenseful ambiance as the narrative steers towards a lengthy courtroom battle. The legal drama is executed with such dramatic tension though wide shots and closeups. In the last pages, Adlard beautifully captures a sense of hope and fulfillment in the face of Carl’s daughter.
2) The Colors! .
In the black and white palette, Cliff Rathburn’s gray tones highlight the small details, such as the wrinkles and freckles on the faces. The gray shades express the emotion behind the facial expressions.

With a surprisingly uplifting and satisfying ending, The Walking Dead has pushed the medium and explored the narrative with multi-dimensional characters. In a wonderful essay, I do love that Kirkman explains his thought process behind the ending.
