Shudder presents the vigorously raw and ferocious prison drama/revenge thriller, 3 From Hell, starring Sheri Moon Zombie and Danny Trejo. After such memorable cult hits, such as House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, writer/director Rob Zombie completes the Firefly trilogy with a stylishly cinematic and highly energetic installment.
After barely surviving a furious shootout with the police, Baby Firefly (Sheri Moon Zombie), Otis Driftwood (Bill Moseley), and Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig) are behind bars. But pure evil cannot be contained. Teaming up with Otis’ half-brother Winslow, the demented Firefly clan are back to unleash a whole new wave of death and depravity.
Here are 5 reasons why you should see 3 From Hell on Shudder:
5) Sheri Moon Zombie!
Interestingly, Sheri Moon Zombie’s Baby stars in her own women-in-prison movie, which really works as an homage to 99 Women and The Big Bird Cage. When sharing a scene together, Zombie and Dee Wallace are fiercely dominant as their headstrong characters, Baby and Greta, the domineering prison guard. Baby (Zombie) is maniacal, tough, and savage as she’s forced to survive in the prison landscape against Greta and her cronies.
4) Richard Brake!
Adding to so much meancing charm and presence, Richard Brake is amazing to watch as the psychotic half-brother, Winslow Foxworth “Foxy” Coltrane. As Otis and Winslow argue over who is a better Bogart, Moseley and Brake are completely at ease with their tough-guy dialogue. As the road trip subplot continues, Brake augments the kinetic group chemistry that was previously established between Moseley and Zombie.
3) Emilio Rivera!
I am a huge fan of Sons of Anarchy and Mayans M.C.; so I was very pleased to see Emilio Rivera pop up in the bullet-ridden third act. Taking the movie to another level, Rivera brings in his charisma and machismo as the brooding Aquarius. A worthy antagonist, Aquarius (Rivera) seeks out the Firefly clan for the death of Rondo (Trejo).
2) The Direction!
The music video editing by Glenn Garland and David Daniel’s cinematic camera tricks really shine during a frenzied shootout as Iron Butterfly’s “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” plays in the background. Though the late Sid Haig was unable to complete a larger role, due to health issues, he truly gives it his all in an incredibly memorable performance as Captain Spaulding.
1) A Pulpy & Gory Crime Thriller!
Writer/director Rob Zombie has made a gritty women in prison movie, a twisted buddy road trip, and a pulpy revenge thriller with 3 From Hell. If you’ve seen House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, then you should not miss out on this one!
3 From Hell premieres on Shudder February 13th, 2020.
