Scared to Death is an engaging and scary supernatural thriller – even if the ending stops abruptly – and actress Lin Shaye is always tremendously fun to watch. Writer/Director Paul Boyd has assembled a diverse cast of lively personalities in a claustrophobic setting.

The PLOT: Jasper, a young filmmaker, seizes a chance to direct when his crew attends a seance in a haunted children’s shelter. Trapped inside, they’re haunted by ghostly orphans and a sinister force.

Here are five reasons why you should watch Scared to Death:

5. Lin Shaye!

Lin Shaye is just phenomenal as the divaesque Max. She’s demanding, over-the-top, campy, and charismatic all at once. Her sneering attitude is highlighted by her black leather outfit.

4. Bill Moseley!

Bill Moseley is interesting to watch as the double-dealing Felix. At times, Moseley makes Felix easygoing and charming, like he’s rooting for Jasper. Then there are other times, Felix might actually be messing with Jasper. Moseley does this switch perfectly throughout the movie.

3. Olivier Paris!

Oliver Paris is exceptional as a leading man. His charisma elevates Jasper as an ambitious filmmaker who may or may not be out of his depth.

2. The Direction!

Director Paul Boyd does a great job creating an eerie atmosphere from a single setting. I felt like I needed another minute or two with the ending, because it set up an unexpected twist that moves Jasper’s narrative to a different dynamic.

1. A Solid Claustrophobic Thriller!

Overall, Scared to Death has an entertaining ensemble cast that keeps viewers engaged from start to finish.

Scared to Death is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on March 13, 2026.
