A riveting conclusion, Angel #4 (BOOM! Studios) closes out the first story arc with the exciting return of a surprise character. A clever spinoff of Buffy The Vampire Slayer starring David Boreanaz, Joss Whedon’s vampire without a soul examines the sins of his past before he can find inner peace.
Los Angeles is becoming infested with more supernatural threats than ever before-and Angel needs to know why before he can complete the rituals to become human once again. But the vampire-with-a-soul’s quest for redemption won’t be as simple as he hoped. When a new threat arrives on the scene and forces Angel to truly examine his past.
Here are 5 reasons why you should read Angel #4:

With a much greater evil is on the horizon, Angel will need every resource and ally he can find to help him save the world, starting with Fred. This also marks the first appearance of a familiar face from the streets of Los Angeles—vampire hunter Charles Gunn.
4) The Writing!
Writer Bryan Hill does a fantastic job creating the suspense As Angel confronts the evil entity responsible for his friend’s murder. Interestingly, Hill portrays Winifred Burkle as someone who knows she’s mentally damaged. Letterer Ed Dukeshire does a great job capturing the menace behind Angel’s enemy, who is the start of something bigger and deadlier.
3) The Artwork!
The highlight of the issue is what artist Gleb Melnikov does with Angel’s hallucinations. Angel is tremendously frightened as he’s surrounded by fallen victims of his past. I believe I also may have spotted Drusilla as one of those victims.
2) The Colors!
Colorist Roman Titov captures a surreal palette when Angel walks through a hallucinatory maze. Notice how the white tones brighten when Angel spots a mysterious girl running. Angel really stands out in each page because of his red shirt.
1) A Great Return!
Teasing upcoming appearances and a possible reunion, Angel #4 sets up potentially interesting series moving on. I look forward to what Fred’s prophecies mean in the next issue.
Angel #4 arrives in stores on August 28th, 2019.
