Remarkably entertaining, Crawl (Paramount Pictures) captures memorable character interplay between Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper during nail-biting suspenseful moments. Director Alexandre Aja cranks up the claustrophobic action while fleshing out his two protagonists in the alligators-gone-wild horror flick.
A young woman, Haley Keller (Kaya Scodelario), attempts to save her father Dave Keller (Barry Pepper) during a Catagory 5 hurricane. She finds herself trapped in a flooding house and must fight for her life against alligators.
Here are 5 reasons we love the official trailer to Crawl:
5) Kaya Scodelario!
A major part of Crawl’s success is how Kaya Scodelaio pulls you in from the vey first minute. Not only does Scodelario sell these incredibly tense moments of being trapped with an alligator, she also expresses the heartache of a disappointed child. Writers Michael Rasmussen and Shawn Rasmussen cleverly sneak in the family drama as the dialogue heightens the antagonistic banter between Hayley (Scodelario) and he father.
4) Barry Pepper!
Interestingly, I love how Barry Pepper plays two versions of Dave Keller. There’s the memory of Dave (Pepper), how Haley lovingly saw her father as a child. And then there’s the real broken down version of Dave, who withered away after the breakup of his marriage. Pepper does a great job of combining both perspectives during his developing character arc.
3) The Horror!
After one pulse-pounding sequence after another, the blood in this flick never takes a turn for the nasty. I believe this is where producer Sam Raimi comes in. The editing by Elliot Greenberg sets out what it’s supposed to do; make the audience think another scary moment is coming without actually providing it.
2) The Director!
As a filmmaker, Alexandre Aja has pushed graphic violence to an eye-popping crescendo with his The Hills Have Eyes remake and High Tension. Setting himself out as a commercial player, Aja stylishly delivers a modern Hollywood blockbuster. Aja has exceptionally paced the film, where the viewer is always kept on edge, with shocking moments that turn out to be false jump scares.1) A Fun Survival Thriller!
A genuinely entertaining survival thriller, Crawl delivers plenty of suspenseful thrills that will keep audiences on the edge of their seat. The film also pulsates thanks to an exceptional lead performance from Kaya Scodelario.
Crawl is in theaters now.
