Sony Pictures has released the first teasing clip to the highly anticipated costume drama, Little Women, starring Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet. Director Greta Gerwig’s exciting follow-up to Lady Bird is a fresh and modern spin on the Louisa May Alcott classic novel.
Following the lives of four sisters, Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg, as they come of age in America in the aftermath of the Civil War. Though all very different from each other, the March sisters stand by each other through difficult and changing times.
Here are 5 reasons we love “Will You Dance” from Little Women:
5) The Setup!
Timothée Chalamet plays Theodore “Laurie” Laurence, the March sister’s loyal neighbor. Laurie (Chalamet) also happens to be Jo (Ronan)’s proposed love interest. In the clip, Laurie asks Jo to dance with him.
4) The Chemistry!
Notice how awkward and playful Jo is as she makes excuses, even blaming her older sister, Meg (Emma Watson). Understandably shy, Jo doesn’t want to be seen by others because her dress is ruined. With his quick-thinking, Laurie comes up with an idea where they can dance and not be seen.
3) The Dancing?
Don’t expect elegant dancing from these two. With no sense of rhythm, Jo bumps into Laurie, almost knocking him over. Afterwards, the two start hopping around. It’s a hilarious and charming scene that will certainly win over viewers.
2) The Camerawork!
The cinematography by Yorick Le Saux is another star in this scene. Notice how the camera pans back and forth, tracking Jo and Laurie as they dance. The hallway is impressively lit by candles!
1) I’m Sold!
The scene really does benefit from Gerwig’s snappy dialogue, the chemistry between Ronan and Chalamet, and the luscious music by Alexandre Desplat.
Little Women arrives in theaters on December 25th, 2019.
