Before it’s highly anticipated theatrical release date, LucasFilm and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures have released the official trailer to Solo: A Star Wars Story, starring Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover. The stand-alone installment — set prior to the events of Rogue One and the original Star Wars — explores how a young Han Solo and Chewbacca became infamous rebels against the Empire.
During an adventure into a dark criminal underworld, Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) meets his future copilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) years before joining the Rebellion.
Here are 5 reasons why we love the Solo: A Star Wars Story Official Trailer!
5) A Western In Space!
Ron Howard took over the reins of director after the rough departure of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Though set in George Lucas’ world, you can tell Howard made a sci-fi western with the loner archetype, the guitar strings plucking in the background, and the obligatory shootouts. We even have a train heist!
4) A Female Droid!
That’s right! Lando has a a female droid working beside him because he’s that smooth! Phoebe Waller-Bridge plays the voice of L3-37.
3) Who’s Behind The Mask?
The official trailer teases a shootout between Han Solo and his nemesis, who brings along their own gang. Since Woody Harrelson’s character, Tobias Beckett, is foreshadowing someone will betray him, I’m wondering if it’s Emilia Clarke’s Qi’Ra behind the mask.
2) How Old Is He!?!
Solo shouts out that Chewbacca is actually 190 years old. In Revenge of the Sith, Chewbacca meet with Yoda when he was 180 years old. So that means this timeline written by Empire Strikes Back writer Lawrence Kasdan takes place 10 years after.
1) The Running Time!
According to MoveWeb, a new report states the runtime for the Solo movie will be 135 minutes, or 2 hours and 15 minutes. This runtime matches with Star Wars: A Force Awakens.
Solo: A Star Wars Movie arrives in theaters on May 25th, 2018. Howard’s latest feature film will screen 10 days earlier from its official release date, premiering on the 15th at the prestigious 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
