Introducing a new story arc, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #81 delivers a solid action sequence while teasing the unexpected arrival of a terrifying nemesis. The TMNT series continues to take the popular franchise into new territory.

New York City is in ruins after the Triceraton Invasion. Various groups jockey for control in the power vacuum. But there is one who doesn’t care about power, only chaos as The Rat King shows up! Will the TMNT be able to stop him from doing the unspeakable?

Here are 5 reasons why you should get Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #81:

5) Invasion of the Triceratons!

In the concluding chapter, the invasion of the Triceratons came to an abrupt halt. Elsewhere, the Turtles had a major confrontation against their father. Splinter. With their family split apart, will the Turtles and Splinter be able to make peace? .

4) The Kingdom Of Rats!

From a story by Kevin Eastman and Bobby Curnow, writer Tom Waltz teases the upcoming arrival of the Rat King. While the Rat King makes his first steps of his sinister plan, Splinter is making moves of his own. The rift between brothers and father is starting to have an effect on them. I also have to mention the Rat King’s character design looks sort of zombie-ish.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Dave Watcher delivers a stunning mediation sequence that involves Leonardo and Splinter. In a frightening prophecy, father and son share the same nightmare about the Rat King.  In a split-screen effect, Splinter and Leonardo are then running to warn the others.

2) The Colors!

Notice how colorist Ronda Pattison uses grays and blues to heighten Jennika’s battle sequence. Jennifer’s pixie blonde hair stands out when she fights beside Casey Jones.

1) A Frightening Read!

Overall, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #81 delivers a strong dose of suspense in its newest storyline. A perfect jumping-on point for new readers, I am very excited to see what happens next!
