Returning from break, the CW Network continues the momentum of their newest superhero drama Black Lightning, starring Cress Williams, with Episode 6: Three Sevens: The Book of Thunder. After being away in exile, Black Lightning has to face the secrets of his past in order to protect his city and his family.

After taking a beating from Joey Toledo (Eric Mendenhall), Black Lightning is finally back on his feet but still stumbling around. After getting a tip, Inspector Henderson (Damon Gupton) rounds up the police to arrest the fallen Black Lightning. Peter Gambi (James Remar) arrives in the nick of time and rescues Black Lightning, keeping him hidden inside his van.

Knowing that Joey let him get away, Tobias Whale (Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III) is furious that Black Lightning is still alive. Henderson starts to notice the racial tensions amongst the white police officers, who want to capture Black Lightning. While Lynn is helping him recover, Jefferson Pierce (Williams) is still haunted by the memories of his father murdered at the hands of Tobias.

As Jefferson contemplates killing Tobias, Jennifer (China Anne McClain) has to make a difficult decision with her boyfriend, Khalil (Jordan Calloway). The mean girls continue to bully Jennifer over on social media. Stuck in his wheelchair, Khalil mocks his girlfriend, calls her ‘Becky,’ and breaks up with her.

At work, Lynn (Christine Adams) ends up looking over the notes stolen by Anissa. Lynn doesn’t realize there is a mole at her lab, reporting on everything she does. Gambi knows she’s the only one who can calm down Jefferson and stop him from killing Tobias. Black Lightning is in the midst of his assassination plot when Lynn’s lab is suddenly broken into.

Elsewhere, Anissa (Nafessa Williams) has been protesting the statue of a Confederate solider. After the nonviolent protest, Anissa is reminded by her father that she is a young black woman, she doesn’t have the luxury to be naive. The other protesters became victims of the white nationalists who plotted revenge, chanting their hate, “You will not replace us!”

After destroying the statue, Anissa finally feels ready to confess to her mother. Seeing her mother tied up, Anissa in costume stops the kidnappers. She ends up fighting her father, who is also in costume. In a twisted metaphor for child abuse, Black Lightning beats his daughter to a pulp.

While Anissa is in recovery, Gambi pays a visit to mob queen Lady Eve (Jill Scott). Because Lynn was looking at top secret files, Lady Eve had to step in and break the truce. Lady Eve knows Gambi is lying to and threatens the Pierce family unless he gives up Black Lightning.

Back at home, Jefferson and Lynn take care of their weakened daughter, realizing she now has superpowers. Khalil finally makes a deal with Tobias, which starts his plans rolling against Black Lightning.

Black Lightning continues Tuesdays at 9pm on The CW.
