With the surprise return of a major antagonist from the past, NBC continues the action and drama of Blindspot Season 3 with Episode 16: Artful Dodge. Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) and Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) are back together solving the cases behind the mystery tattoos.
Borden (Ukweli Roach) is alive and well as he interrogates a prisoner before electrocuting him. At the FBI office, Reade (Rob Brown) joins Patterson (Ashley Johnson) and Tasha (Audrey Esparza) a as they try out different cakes. While Roman (Luke Mitchell) makes a copy of Hank (David Morse)’s documents, Rich Dotcom (Ennis Esmer) has found a clue to the Dragonfly project.
Reade warns Rich that his FBI deal is under review. After getting decrypted file from Roman, Jane and Patterson are made a breakthrough with Dragonfly. Now that she has been caught, Tasha reveals to the team that she is Borden’s handler.
In a flashback, after the explosion, Borden fled the country and Tasha found him in a hospital. Keaton (Chad Donella) wants to use Borden to go undercover and bring down a top criminal for immunity. If Borden is in the US, Kurt wants to arrest him but Tasha will lose his intel.
With Tasha and Patterson’s friendship torn apart, Rich gets in trouble with the review board. Keaton reveals Borden dumped his new handler and gave a clue to the security footage. At the meeting spot, the team surveils Broden when armed men start shooting. Kurt tackles Borden before he could escape and arrests him.
Borden tells Tasha and Kurt that he has been caught as a mole. Jane consoles Patterson, who refuses to sit this one out. Borden asks to see Patterson and apologize to her. Hank explains his plan for world domination to Hank; a peace-keeping army. After Roman faints, Rich’s contract has been terminated. With Borden’s USB useless, the terrorist group is on their way.
Roman wakes up at the hospital and appears shocked to be there. With no clues whatsoever from Borden, Patterson has a mental breakdown in her lab, in front of Rich. Rich’s advice inspires Patterson to decrypt the file in Broden’s USB.
Roman is suffering effects from the drug that Jane injected him with. Making an emotional connection, Hank advises him to let his anger go. Now that they know the terrorist’s plan, the team hurries to the hideout and takes down the guards.
After discovering the children, Jane and Tasha find the rigged bombs. Kurt and Reade find the terrorist leader, who has the detonator. While the two rush to remove the C4, the terrorist leader detonates the bomb, which luckily doesn’t explode.
With his CIA deal over, Borden screams to the camera that he needs to see Patterson. But she doesn’t want anything to do with him. Though the review board delays their decision on Rich, they plan on going after Reade next.
With Patterson’s friendship on the rocks, Tasha tells Reade that she loves him. Patterson tells Jane that Roman’s gala invitation will lead them close to Hank’s arrest.
