Sending out invitations to the highly anticipated gala, NBC continues the action and drama of Blindspot Season 3 with Episode 17: Mum’s The Word. Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) and Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) are back together solving the cases behind the mystery tattoos.
While making a deal for untraceable diamonds, Roman (Luke Mitchell) walks out to meet Hank Crawford (David Morse). Back in New York, there is still a rift between Patterson (Ashley Johnson) and Tasha (Audrey Esparza). Reade (Rob Brown) explains to the team that they need evidence at Blake’s gala in order to bring down Crawford.
With a box full of papers and emails, Avery (Kristina Reyes) wants to help but she’s rejected by her mother. She recognizes the boat named Sea Duction and spots one of Patterson’s person of interest, Jean-Paul (Bruce Davison). Kurt wants Jane that she’s driving her daughter away by removing her from danger.
Reade discovers Patterson is freezing out Tasha from her contact list. Making connections to The Serpent, the team think Crawford is their most-wanted terrorist. Making things awkward, Reade and Tasha have to pretend to be a couple in order for Patterson to hack into the planner’s laptop.Through the hard-drive, Patterson reveals Roman has been working as Crawford’s bodyguard.
Worried this could be a trap, Kurt wants Avery to score an invitation to Blake’s gala. At the gala, Patterson guides Avery into the bathroom, where she’s spotted by security. While Avery sweet-talks the guard, Jane puts on a fancy dress and a blonde wig. Also at the party, Tasha is wearing a red wig to match her dress.
While Tasha and Jane have a heart-to-heart talk about forgiveness, Reade orders Patterson to move on. As Kurt knocks out security, Patterson gets a warning about Avery. Blake asks a nervous Hank about her father’s suicide. Roman smiles as he suddenly shakes hands with Jane and Avery.
Jane and Avery walk with Roman as he explains Crawford is a bigger target; they need his help. While Tasha keeps an eye on Blake (Tori Anderson), Roman promises evidence by taking down the electromagnetic net. In the bathroom, Tasha makes her greet with Blake.
Avery is punished after slipping a tracker into Roman’s jacket. Kurt,, Tasha, and Kurt enter the secure room, setting up their cameras and audio. Roman changes the plan and cuts the feed, playing with the team.
In a flashback, Roman has an intimate moment with Blake and Hank. Avery bumps into Blake and refuses her dinner date. Feeling sorry for her, Blake promises never to let Roman feel alone. Admitting they love each other, Roman and Blake kiss. Roman warns Hank that the FBI are onto him.
As Kurt and the team swarm in, they follow his tracker to Jean-Paul (Bruce Davison). This was all a setup for Kurt to shoot and kill Jean-Paul. Overlooking the surveillance footage from the gala, Jane figures out Roman is really in love with Blake.
Tasha turns down Reade’s offer to be his best man. Kurt and Jane have dinner with Avery as Roman plans his next hit.
