Luke Cage Season 1, DVD,

An incredible blend of crime, hip-hop, and superhero thrills, Netflix brings Marvel’s Luke Cage: Season 1 (starring Mike Colter) onto DVD and Blu-Ray. Sit back and re-watch your favorite moments from the collectible packaging designed by popular artist Joe Quesada.

Framed for a crime he didn’t commit, escaped convict Luke Cage (Colter) attempts to live under the radar. With superhuman strength and unbreakable skin, he hides his abilities in fear. But when ruthless crime boss Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes (Mahershala Ali) turns Harlem into a bloodbath, Luke is forced to come out of the shadows and embrace his ultimate destiny.

5 reasons to pick up Marvel’s Luke Cage: The Complete First Season on DVD:

5) A Signature Style All Its Own!

Daredevil was all action and Jessica Jones was a noirish delight, but showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker (Ray Donovan) took Luke Cage to a whole new level. A standout all its own, Luke Cage has a smart socio-political commentary that dived deep into gentrification, white privilege, and Black Lives Matter. As a comic book adaptation, well I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but you’re going to love what Simone Missick does as Misty Knight.

4) The Defender & His Villains!

Mike Colter exudes confidence and smoothness as a charismatic lead. Except for Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, I feel like the best villains in the MCU always show up on television. Mahershala Ali is just terrifying as the mob boss who hates his nickname and dreams of something bigger, while staring at the painting of The Notorious B.I.G. I loved the chemistry between Shades (Theo Rossi) and Mariah (Alfre Woodard)!

3) The Music!

The score was composed by Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. The best musical moments from the show came about from the live performers in Cottonmouth’s nightclub, Harlem’s Paradise. The soundtrack includes the original song, “Bulletproof Love,” featuring Method Man.

2) For Book Lovers!

I loved those moments where Luke Cage (Colter) is at Pop’s barbershop and just talks about literature. Luke is even reading Walter Mosley’s Little Green. There’s even competition between the West Coast and East Coast over who’s crime writer is most popular.

1) The Special Features!

Offstage at Harlem’s Paradise – Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Alfre Woodard (Mariah), Theo Rossi (Shades) and Simone Missick (Misty) sit down in an intimate round table discussion about the behind-the-scenes production of the debut season of Luke Cage. This is the part where I was there was more, like commentaries.

Marvel’s Luke Cage: The Complete First Season DVD and Blu-Ray arrives in stores on December 12, 2017.
