A gritty and brutal crime drama, Bone Parish #8 (BOOM! Studios) dives into the supernatural to provide a thought-provoking social commentary on the war on drugs! One of the best titles to have come out of 2018, Bone Parish succeeds at so many levels because of its ensemble of compelling characters.
New Orleans has become a battlezone as the Ash turf war spills out of the shadows.
We have 5 reasons why you should get Bone Parish #8:
5) What Happened Before!
Since the first issue, the new drug that everybody is talking about is made from humans! The ashes that the users are inhaling actually come from the dead. Now imagine someone experimenting on this kind of drug and taking its adverse effects to another level.
4) The Writing!
Bouncing between subplots, Writer Cullen Bunn spotlights the struggle of withdrawal as Detective Herron attempts to stay clean and continue her investigation. A short story on its own, the opening pages are brilliantly told without dialogue. Letterer Ed Dukeshire does a great job highlighting the tough personalties of Billy and his lethal leather-clad gang.
3) The Artwork!
Artist Jonas Scharf does a fantastic job jumping back and forth between the sex and violence. A perfect example of editing, the car chase swerves and the sex scene climaxes. Notice how Scharf illustrates Dee, a street junkie, with her frail and weak body.
2) The Colors!
Colorist Alex Gumaraes amps up the drug hallucination with such vivid tones. These surreal pages are so gorgeous looking and dive into the user’s head. Readers can easily spot Dee in the pages because of her purple hair color.
1) Horror & Crime!
A solid installment, Bone Parish #8 brings out the best in horror and crime! I really want to know what happens next!
