A highly satisfying first installment, Cold Spots #1 (Image Comics) mixes the suspenseful menace from the mystery and paranormal genres. Right off the bat, Cold Spots does a phenomenal job as a spectacular thriller that knows how to cleverly blend noir and horror.
10 years ago, Dan Kerr turned his back on his wife and unborn daughter. Now, both mother and child have gone missing, and Dan must face cosmic terrors to find them again. He soon finds that ghosts stir when his estranged daughter is near. And as the dead grow restless, the cold deepens.
Here are 5 reasons to get Cold Spots#1:
5) Who’s Afraid of Ghosts?

To be honest, this critic isn’t a huge fan of ghost stories. Sometimes, I feel ghost stories have the same look and feel. But Cold Spots dives deeper into the emotional core, twisting the themes of mortality and principles.
4) The Writing!
In the first installment, writer Cullen Bunn digs into the emotional sorrow that mourners feel, especially with moments left unsaid. When Kerr shows up, it becomes private eye tale with a surprising twist. Simon Bowland’s lettering emphasizes the emotions as the cast of characters deliver their dialogue.
3) The Artwork!
The artwork by Mark Torres is simply amazing to study! The first few pages are short story in itself. Torres gives a specific look to the ghosts that is quite different and haunting.
2) The Colors!
I love that the ghosts are made of black smoke and red eyes. The flashbacks are drenched in a glowing green hue. Kerr’s jacket stands out in every page because of its brown stripes.
