Delivering the thrills at a gripping pace, Gideon Falls #3 (Image Comics) heightens the suspenseful tension up to near-constant level of paranoia. The creative team behind Old Man Logan and Green Arrow dive into the themes of mental illness and faith in their perverse mystery.
The mysteries of the “Black Barn” heighten, The reclusive Norton suddenly gets closer to the secrets of the Black Barn. While holding onto his faith, Fred discovers a grisly new crime in Gideon Falls.
Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Gideon Falls #3:
5) What Happened Before…
GIDEON FALLS #3 is out this week!! You’re all invited to Father Fred’s mass this Wednesday (maybe beware the wooden buildings along the way..)! pic.twitter.com/1qku3LF25v

In the first issue, Father Fred Wilfred and Norton found themselves connect to the mysterious legend of The Black Barn. Norton’s therapist, Angie, realizes that the only way to help her patient is become drawn to the mystery of the Black Barn. But has she lost her mind in the process?
4) The Writing!
Writer Jeff Lemire continues to build-up the mystery and still finds a clever way to add dark humor into the narrative. I really liked the introduction of the Sheriff into Fred’s story. The Sheriff pretends to be chipper and jolly in her dialogue, but there’s an underlying sense she suspects him as well.
4) The Artwork!
With such heavy inks, artist Andrea Sorrentino captures Norton’s constant fear of the outside world. In a breathtaking two-pager, Sorrentino emphasizes the little details, such as the gas mask, the locked door, and the hidden trap. Steve Wands’ lettering captures Norton’s internal struggle to keep himself sane.
3) The Colors!
Colorist Dave Stewart depicts Fred’s spirituality in the yellow hues. Notice how Fred is always drenched in the same yellowish tone to represent his faith. This little detail gives me enough reason to look back on previous installments and search for this theme.
1) A Gripping Mystery!
Eisner Awards voting is now open for comics industry pros. Any support for Black Hammer, Royal City, Descender or myself would be greatly appreciated! https://t.co/GfbGBgq4Cp
