With such very cool and striking images, Lucas Stand: Inner Demons #1 marks the highly anticipated returns of Kurt Sutter’s supernatural anti-hero. Known for his remarkable television works on Sons of Anarchy and the upcoming Mayans MC, Sutter continues to put his indelible stamp with his latest 6-part limited series.

Military vet, Lucas Stand, has been forced to hunt demons. He followed the orders from his master, Gadrel. Now he has finally managed to break free and strike out on his own. However, his actions have garnered him a formidable reputation and it’s not just the demons who are after him this time around.

Here are 5 reasons why you should get Lucas Stand: Inner Demons #1:

5) An Interesting Protagonist!

Writers Kurt Sutter and Caitlin Kittridge kick off the installment with a nasty brawl at the bar. We see the consequences of Stand’s drunken fight. His unshaven chin and long hair presents a world-weary protagonist searching for retribution.

4) Time Travel!

Sutter and Kittridge make great use of the comic book medium with their nonlinear storytelling. Lucas Stand jumps into various time periods and appears in different stages. The use of time-travel, without getting bogged down by those sci-fi rules, becomes an interesting storytelling technique.

3)The Artwork!

A major highlight of the issue, Jesus Hervas’ artwork is just phenomenally eye-catching. Interestingly, Hervas has to illustrate Stand physically different, through hair and clothes, more than once. His character design may have changed but the reader still knows it’s Lucas Stand.

2) The Colors!

In the opening pages, colorist Alex Guimaraes captures a gritty vibe with splashes of red. Notice the detail to the shadows given on the demon’s wrinkled face. I love how the blue and yellowish tones make the backgrounds strike out.

1) A Spellbinding Read!

New readers will be able to easily jump right in with Lucas Stand: Inner Demons #1, while the installments explores its own mythology. What makes Lucas Stand series so great is the protagonist’s attitude and that creepy atmosphere!
