A remarkable blend of urban crime, medical drama, and superhero thrills, Marvel Comics really packs an unforgettable punch with the Luke Cage: Everyman trade. Longtime fans and new readers will find themselves unexpectedly rewarded when they reach the final page.

With Harlem in the grips of an unprecedented heat wave, the people look to their hero—the unbreakable man, Luke Cage! But the heat wave turns out to be the least of Harlem’s worries. Someone has their sights set on the city’s 1%, and the rich and powerful are dropping dead from mysterious illnesses. It’s up to Luke Cage to stop the Everyman Killer—even though he’s just received a grim diagnosis of his own… By the time Luke discovers the true identity of the Everyman Killer he’s too late to stop them from abducting one of the most important people in his life. Can Luke neutralize the killer in time to save his beloved city?

Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Luke Cage: Everyman:

5) The Writing!

Now as a collection of the digital comic, readers will surely enjoy how writer Anthony Del Col focuses on Luke Cage’s external and internal battles. Not only are the super-villains menacing and deadly, something heinous has sunk into Cage’s unbreakable skin; leaving him morbidly ill. In the lettering, VC’s Clayton Cowles captures an emotional father’s thoughts and fears of leaving a little girl alone.

4) The Artwork!
Artist Jahnoy Lindsay captures an intense brawl between Omega Red and Cage. Their confrontations are top-notch as the two beat each other to a pulp. I love the character design of Cage, with his yellow hoodie, bald head, and scruffy beard; which may be influence from the Netflix drama.

3) The Colors!
Colorist Ian Herring captures a vibrant palette with the yellow tones. The first thing your eyes turn to, Cage always stands out in the pages because of his yellow hoodie. Because the narrative is set during a heat wave, notice how the city feels like it’s on fire with the sweltering temperatures.

2) The Extras!
After reading the story, make sure you check out the extras! The collection includes variant covers, a letter from the author, and the creative team reveal the behind-the-scenes process through in-depth interviews.

1) A Must Read!

A fun page-turner, Luke Cage: Everyman delivers a successful character study of a superhero racing against the clock. If you’re sad Netflix cancelled your favorite TV show after two season, Everyman will definitely fill in that empty spot.
