A terrifying new chapter continues, Gideon Falls #8 (Image Comics) delivers nonstop scares in every single frightening page. The creative team behind Old Man Logan and Green Arrow take on mental illness and faith with such intense mediation.

As the gossamer threads that appear to connect Father Fred and Norton across Space and Time become more entwined, Norton suffers a mental setback that could jeopardize both their investigations.

Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Gideon Falls #8:

5) What Happened Before!

First, we have a reclusive young man, Norton, obsessed with a conspiracy in the city’s trash. Then we have a washed-up Catholic priest, Father Fred, arriving in a small town full of dark secrets. Now their lives will become intertwined around the mysterious legend of The Black Barn.

4) The Writing!

Writer Jeff Lemire keeps the plot moving at breakneck speed, making Norton Sinclair a much more interesting character. Lemire also brings back a previous subplot and unloads his commentary on religion. As a Catholic myself, I feel like Lemire’s writing taps into my early fears about blind faith and private schools.

3) The Artwork!

Andrea Sorrentino’s artwork in Gideon Falls is nothing less than breathtaking. I loved how the heavy inks capture the detail on Nortion’s paranoia in his padded cell. The two-pager is one enormous map of Norton’s unstable mind; it;s quite jaw-dropping and cinematic.

2) The Colors!

Colorist Dave Stewart uses red to heighten Norton’s paranoia. I like how there is just a red line that divides Norton’s past and present. Stewart also uses a round circle so that your eyes focuses in on a clue.
