The CW Network has announced the official casting of actress Ruby Rose cast as Batwoman, aka Kate Kane, the street-fighting vigilante from DC Comics. The Flash, Supergirl, and Arrow will meet a new kind of hero in their upcoming crossover event.
Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
5) The Announcement!
According to TVLine, the Australian actress has landed the titular role in Batwoman. After her first appearance in the upcoming crossover, the CW sees potential for the character as a standalone series. I can’t wait to see how they translate Batwoman’s red and black costume onto the TV screen!
4) Representation Matters!
On her official Instagram account, Rose reveals what the role means to her, “The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different. Thank you everyone. Thank you god.”
3) She Kicks Butt!
As we mentioned in our Blu-Ray review, the John Wick 2 actress brought in the sexiness and craziness as the mute assassin, Ares. Rose gives such a fierce and piercing luck when she enters a room wearing her stylish black suit. She steals the scene by taunting John Wick in sign language, “”Be seeing you.”
2) Crossover Time!
Will Batwoman (Rose) be butting heads with Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and The Flash (Grant Gustin)? Will they discover her true identity as Kate Kane (a tribute to creator Bob Kane) underneath the red wig and mask? Will Kate be related to Bruce Wayne as his cousin?
1) Potential Series?
Will Batwoman get her own TV series. There is a script development deal set up at Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. The Vampire Diaries‘ very own Caroline Dries will pen the script.
Ruby Rose will make her first appearance as Batwoman in the upcoming Arrow-verse crossover in December.
