Sundance Now has announced the premiere date for Exeter, its first-ever scripted crime thriller podcast starring Jeanne Tripplehorn and Ray McKinnon. AMC Networks’ direct-to-consumer SVOD service brings the gripping crime mystery to audiences from Insurrection Media, Icemen Audio, and executive producers Ronnie Gunter, Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, Jordanna Fraiberg and Deborah Henderson.
Veteran detective, Colleen Clayton (Jeanne Tripplehorn), is forced to reconcile the errors of a past case, when a woman she convicted of murder is exonerated after 10 years in prison. Detective Clayton struggles to keep the trust of her department as a series of grisly and ritualistic murders rock her decaying South Carolina town. This puts her at odds with her ambitious partner, Lester Pruitt (McKinnon), as they race to put the pieces together.
5) Her First Foray!
The Basic Instinct actress describes exploring her character in her first foray into the scripted podcast space, “She’s a loner and very strong – almost to a fault – who lives for her work as a detective as well as taking care of her brother.”
4) Sundance!
Ray McKinnon describes Sundance as “It’s a brand that respects creative voices and embraces out-of-the-ordinary forms of storytelling. I’m well-versed in Sundance traditions, thanks to my time working with the team on Rectify, and am thrilled to be welcomed back into the family.”
3) Kinetic Typography!
Thanks to the dynamic captions were created by Paul Cooper, the Kinetic Typography will animate words and phrases in the character’s dialogue to underscore emotion and heighten tension. The presentation will not only introduce a deaf audience to a previously inaccessible format, but also create an exclusive, unique visual experience for fans of the traditional audio drama.
2) Something New!
Not only will the Kinetic Typography mark the first time that his process has been utilized for a scripted dramatic podcast, writer/director Ronnie Gunter adds, “It’s been a pleasure working with the team at Sundance Now and I am honored to be a part of their programming. Here’s to making up murders and solving them.”
1) Season 2!
Season two of Exeter has already been greenlit. The second season premiere will take place sometime early 2019.
Exeter will premiere on Sundance Now Thursday October 25th, 2018.
